Been quite long huh? Yeah I’ve been real busy of late, deadlines to meet, places to go and things to do.

Here’s a story  a friend told me and I think it’s a very good way to start your ‘TGIF weekend’         .

So the story is set in the time when humans and animals could talk to each other and there’s this greedy man, Kofi Nuvoe.  He was very witty and a miser too. He was so clever he got whatever he wanted by playing tricks on people. He even succeeded in tricking the chief of his own village into parting away with his only fat cow. He was rich and lent money to people at a very high interest. Three times what you borrowed! (Outrageous!). He was well known for his greed, far and wide- even the ants knew him!

A tortoise who had fallen in a ditch asked for his help when he was passing by but he refused and the tortoise promised himself to teach Kofi Nuvoe a lesson. He led the good Samaritan, Korku Hateka, to a treasure which was worthless to him (the tortoise)- a pot full of thousand cowries (cowries were the monetary unit at the time). There were golden cowries too, something out of the ordinary. Tortoise then showed Hateka how he could teach Kofi Nuvoe a lesson.

Two market days later, Hateka went to Kofi Nuvoe to borrow hundred cowries. Kofi Nuvoe happily lent him the money but on a condition. If he couldn’t repay his debt, he was to be executed. Hateka agreed. The three hundred cowries was to be repaid in  five days time.

Cowries

Cowries

The following day, Kofi Nuvoe was surprised to see Hateka at his door.
“Some of the cowries you lent me yesterday gave birth to these golden cowries,” Hateka said. “ since they were your cowries that gave birth to them, they are yours and so I’ve brought them to you.”

Kofi Nuvoe was surprised to see the golden cowries. They were beautiful. He had never seen a golden cowry before. But he thought, cowries can never give birth. It was the stupidest thing he had ever heard. But because he was greedy he wanted to keep them for himself. And so he collected them and counted twenty of them

“But you still owe me three hundred cowries.” He said.

“Yes.” Hateka agreed.

The following morning, Kofi Nuvoe was again surprised to see Hateka at his door.
“Good morning Kofi. Some of the cowries you lent me gave birth to these forty golden cowries and since they were your cowries that gave birth to them, they are yours so I’ve brought them to you.”
Greedily, Kofi Nuvoe collected the forty golden cowries and said,

“But you still owe me three hundred cowries.”

“Yes.” Hateka agreed.

On the third day, Kofi Nuvoe was again surprised to see Hateka at his door.
“Good morning Kofi. Some of the cowries you lent me gave birth to these sixty golden cowries and since they were your cowries that gave birth to them, they are yours so I’ve brought them to you.”

Kofi Nuvoe was more than happy and he greedily collected the sixty cowries.

“But you still owe me three hundred cowries.”

“Yes.” Hateka agreed.

On the fourth day, Kofi Nuvoe was waiting at his door for Hateka. As usual Hateka came.

“Good morning Kofi. Some of the cowries you lent me gave birth to these eighty golden cowries and since they were your cowries that gave birth to them, they are yours so I’ve brought them to you.”

Kofi again greedily collected the eighty golden cowries and said, “But you still owe me three hundred cowries.”

“Yes.” Hateka agreed.

On the night of the fourth day Kofi realized that the number of golden cowries doubled by the day and so he would be expecting hundred golden cowries the next day in addition to his three hundred cowries. He was so happy with himself and called Hateka a fool.

On the fifth day, he was waiting at his door and as usual Hateka came.

“Good morning Kofi. Some of the cowries you lent me gave birth to these hundred golden cowries and since they were your cowries that gave birth to them, they are yours so I’ve brought them to you. Also here is the three hundred cowries I owe you.”

Kofi Nuvoe was so delighted. He had gained so much from Hateka’s foolishness he thought.

Two market days later, Hateka went to Kofi Nuvoe to borrow some cowries. Kofi was more than happy to lend him the cowries. “I want to borrow all your cowries including the golden ones.”

Kofi thinking he would reap so much from lending all his cowries as they would give birth to golden ones, he lent Hateka all his cowries.

The following morning Kofi waited for Hateka but he didn’t show up. The next day Hateka did not appear either. Kofi was angry. On the third day, Kofi went to report to the chief. He told him the whole story and Hateka was sent for.

When Hateka came, he had this sad look on his face as if someone had died.   When Hateka was asked why he couldn’t repay his debt, he said, “The cowries Kofi Nuvoe lent me suddenly fell sick when I took them home. They all died the following morning and I buried them.”

Kofi was furious. “How can cowries die! Liar! Thief!” He said.

Then the chief said, “How can cowries give birth to golden ones? Once you believed cowries could give birth, why can’t they die also?”  And so he let Hateka go and Kofi Nuvoe lost all his treasure.

Witty huh? Lol

Now who’s the moron? The super moron actually. The title “Who’s The Super Moron?” was inspired by a very interesting game I played on friend’s phone with the name Super Moron. It’s one those what-is-at-the-end-of-it type of games where they ask you questions to test your IQ or something. When you chose a wrong answer, the screen pops up: “I’m afraid you are a Super Moron!!”
